Adopt a resolution authorizing the submittal of a grant application in <br />the amount of $100,000 to the California State Parks Habi tat <br />Conservation Fund Program for the Santiago Park Trailhead. <br /> <br />2. Adopt a resolution authorizing the submittal of a grant application in <br />the amount of $50,000 to the California State Parks Habitat Conservation <br />Fund Program for the Cienega de las Ranas Habitat Restoration Project at <br />Thornton Park. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />The Habi tat Conservation Fund Grant Program was established <br />California Wildlife Protection Act of 1990 and provides <br />enhancement and restoration of riparian habitats throughout <br />The application requires a 50-percent match of non-state money. <br /> <br />under the <br />funds for <br />the State. <br /> <br />The Santiago Trailhead is the main entrance to the Santiago Nature Reserve <br />Trail, Interpretive Nodes Area, and the Santiago Wildlife Habitat Viewing <br />Facility. The proposed project will include installation of small <br />retaining walls and hardscape, signage and interpretive graphics, and <br />landscaping of the trailhead. The project will clarify the entrance to <br />the park and provide a transition between the parking lot, baseball field <br />and the start of the wildlife habitat. <br /> <br />The Cienega de las Ranas Habitat Restoration proj ect at Thornton Park <br />consists of the re-creation of the historic ecological conditions of the <br />site. The project includes restoring and enhancing the freshwater marsh <br />habitat surrounding the lake and to the east of the lake, and connecting <br />the flood control channel to the lake with a band of native wetland and <br /> <br />55A-1 <br />
