MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />July 1, 1985 <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order at 1:25 p.m., by Mayor Daniel E. <br />Griset in Roan 831, City Hall, 20 Civic Center Plaza. Councilm~nbers <br />present were John Acosta, Patricia A. McGuigan and Mayor Griset. <br />Also present ware City Manager Robert C. Bobb, City Attorney Edward <br />J. Cooper and Clerk of the Council Janice C. Guy. Councilmembers <br />Wilson B. Hart, P. Lee Johnson, R. W. Luxembourger and Dan Young <br />ware absent. <br /> <br />Since a quor~n was not present, the Mayor ordered the meeting recessed <br />to 2:00 p.m., pending the arrival of Councilmember Young. <br /> <br />At 2:12 p.m., the meeting was convened with Councilmembers Acosta, <br />McGuigan, Young and Mayor Griset present. <br /> <br />WORK STUDY SESSION <br /> <br />S~orts Arena - The Westdome <br /> <br />The City Manager introduced a presentation by the Westdome Partnership <br />of "The Westdom~," an 18,500 seat sports arena to be built on the <br />present Eddie West Stadi%ml site, explaining the proposed facility was <br />one of the 17 points contained in the plan fonmulated by the Council <br />in February, 1985, and represented a major cc~aponent of the economic <br />renaissance currently underway in Santa Ana. He indicated that brief- <br />ing meetings on the facility bad been conducted for Board and Conlnis- <br />sion members, representatives of the athletic ccemunity, Orange <br />County, and the Hispanic business c~l~unity. <br /> <br />Allan Durkovich provided an overview of the Arena project, narrated <br />the first segment of a slide presentation on "The Westdome," and in- <br />troduced the r~naining members of the Westdom~ Partnership -- Robert <br />Osbrink, Ronald McMahon and Donald Oliphant. Osb~ink discussed the <br />factors which had been responsible for selection of Santa Ana as the <br />site for the Arena and enumerated many possible uses for the facility, <br />including basketball, soccer, ice shows, rodeos, restaurant, and <br />indoor tennis. McMahon, architect for the project, explained several <br />of the technicalities of the Dome's construction.
