MINUTES OF THE ADJOURN~) REGULAR MEETING <br />OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br /> SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />July 16, 1985 <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order at 4:28 p.m., by Mayor Daniel E. Griset in <br />Roc~ 831, City Hall, 20 Civic Center Plaza. Councilm~nbers present were <br />John Acosta, Wilson B. Hart, Patricia A. McGuigan, Dan Young and Mayor <br />Griset. Also present were City Manager Robert C. Bobb, City Attorney <br />Edward J. Cooper and Clerk of the Council Janice C. Guy. Councilme~ber P. <br />Lee Johnson joined the meeting at 4:33 p.m. Councilmenber R. W. <br />Luxembourger was absent. <br /> <br />WORK STUDY SESSION <br /> <br />Communications and Marketin9 Budget <br /> <br />The Executive Director of the C~,uLunications and Marketing Division <br />presented the Department's budget, reviewing the major cc~ponents of the <br />depar~m~ent's four functional areas of Cable TV, City Council <br />Communications Support, Marketing, and Public Information. Following the <br />presentation, she responded to Councilmembers' questions and c~mments <br />which included but were not limited to the following: the difference <br />between the marketing function perfonmed in the Communications and <br />Marketing Division as opposed to that of the Economic Development Agency, <br />the possible use of volunteers to provide public infomation services <br />within City Hall, the reasons for increases in the Department's budget, <br />and Division funding from General Revenue Sharing funds. <br /> <br />Councilm~nber Young encouraged staff to develop a logo or symbol for the <br />City's Cable TV channel with more marketing appeal, suggested the <br />marketing program in the City be consolidated under a marketing ccn~ittee, <br />and requested cost projections for the City's total marketing efforts. <br /> <br />Councilmember Young explained to the Councilmembers that he had had <br />several discussions with staff relative to development of a City magazine. <br />The City Manager provided background on staff's efforts relative to <br />production of a City magazine, "Santa Ana Today," which would consolidate <br />several brochures currentlybeing published by the City into a monthly <br />magazine, which would be privately published and eventually a profit-making <br />venture. <br /> <br />Councilme~ber McGuigan expressed concern that the brochure was to be <br />published in English only, and stated such an expenditure was difficult to <br />justify in Santa Ana with its large non-English speaking population. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES <br /> <br />320 JULY 16, 1985 <br /> <br /> <br />
