Bonnie Smith-Kazazza, 1810 Greenleaf Street, addressed Council, re- <br />questing that the Executive Director of the Public Services Agency and <br />Councilm~nber Acosta meet with the neighbors in the next two weeks for <br />the purpose of exploring alternative solutions to the traffic conges- <br />tion probl~ns, with a final report to be submitted to the Council on <br />November 4, 1985. <br /> <br />By the unanimous informal consent of the Council and at the direction <br />of the Mayor, the matter was referred to staff to facilitate the <br />requested meetings, as well as prepare a long range neighborhood <br />improv~r~ent plan. FILE 1040 <br /> <br />90.B. FOREIGN TRADE ZONE APPLICATION UPDATE <br /> <br />The City Manager indicated the Foreign Trade Zone Application Update <br />would be deferred until October 21, 1985. BUSINESS ATTRACTION/RETENTION PROGRAM UPDATE <br /> <br />Hank Cunningham, Business/Industrial Developraent Manager, presented an <br />overview of the strategies and methods used by his department to <br />attract new businesses to the City, and to retain and expand existing <br />businesses. <br /> <br />At 8:45 p.m., the Council recessed and reconvened at 9:02 p.m., with <br />the s~nemembers present. <br /> <br />SENIOR CITIZENS CENTER - WEST M~FADDEN AND CENTER STREETS <br /> <br />The City Manager updated the Council on the status of the City's ap- <br />plication for funding of a new Senior Citizens Center at McFadden and <br />Center Streets, indicating the City's allocation had been reduced from <br />$900,000.00 to $450,000.00. He urged the Council to directly contact <br />the Orange County Board of Supervisors and advocate that the Board <br />recc~rnend to the State Department of Aging that the full funding re- <br />quest be granted. <br /> <br />Thelma Page, 217 North Buele Street, and Marie Mathias, 1705 South <br />Fairview Street, presented a petition to the Council requesting <br />assistance with securing the necessary funding. <br /> <br />Councilmember Acosta indicated he would meet with Supervisor Stanton <br />and also urge the State Co~nission on Aging, of which he is a msmber, <br />to grant the funding request. <br /> <br />MOTION: <br /> <br />Reaffirm City Council support of the Senior citizens' <br />project at McFadden and Center Streets and request the <br />Orange County Board of Supervisors to recofmnend full <br />funding for the Senior Citizens Center to the California <br />Department of Aging. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES <br /> <br />462 <br /> <br />OCTOBER 14, 1985 <br /> <br /> <br />
