Description of Work - in space below, describe the program to be funded during the 12- <br />month contract period including, services to be provided, program goals, client <br />characteristics, & how grant funds will be utilized. <br />The "Steps to Independence" program is a transitional shelter program. Through the 'Steps to <br />Independence," "Senior Step," "First Step" programs, WISEPlace provides shelter, food, <br />clothing, counseling, and supportive services for women who are living alone. The women <br />served include the following: victims of domestic violence, recovering substance abusers, youth <br />emancipating from the foster care system, and senior women. <br />The goal of the "Steps" programs is to take homeless women off the street and rehabilitate <br />them, enabling them to re-establish themselves as fully functioning members of the community. <br />The short-term goal is to make each program participant self-sufficient so they will not become a <br />statistic in this or any other shelter in the future. Sub -goals include: strengthening each woman's <br />coping skills; developing each woman's sense of integrity and self-worth, enabling each woman <br />to have a choice in determining her future, and empowering her to address her issues directly. <br />The specific use of the ESG funds is to provide case management and employment <br />coordination services for the residents.
