<br />4.10 <br /> <br />4.11 <br /> <br />salary rate range as will grant that employee an <br />increase of one salary step over his or her current <br />base salary step. This is exclusive of any pay <br />additive or additives such as shift differential, <br />assignment pay, special skill payor the like, <br />educational incentive pay, or career development pay; <br />provided further, that upon promotion no employee who <br />was receiving educational incentive or career <br />development pay shall be placed in a salary step that <br />would cause him or her to receive less than his or her <br />total compensation prior to promotion, including <br />educational incentive or career development pay. <br /> <br />B. Paramedic Pay. A Firefighter/Paramedic, who promotes <br />to either the rank of Engineer or Captain, shall not <br />experience any salary reduction as a result of the <br />loss of the approximate 12.5% paramedic assignment pay <br />differential. When the base salary for the promoted <br />position is equal to or greater than the employee's <br />base salary at the time of promotion, then the <br />Paramedic assignment pay differential shall be <br />eliminated. <br /> <br />Demotion. When an employee is demoted to a position in a <br />lower classification, his or her base salary rate shall be <br />fixed in the appropriate salary rate range for the lower <br />classification in accordance with the following <br />provisions: <br /> <br />A. The salary rate shall be reduced by at least one step <br />in the appropriate salary rate range. <br /> <br />B. The new salary rate must be wi thin the appropriate <br />salary rate range. <br /> <br />C. The new salary rate shall not be higher than the <br />salary step to which the employee would have been <br />entitled had his or her service time in the higher <br />classification been spent in the lower classification. <br /> <br />D. If the salary rate recommended by the Fire Chief is <br />lower than the maximum step permissible under <br />Subsection C above, such recommendation shall be <br />considered a reduction in pay in addition to the <br />demotion and shall be handled in accordance with the <br />provisions for salary reductions (Section 4.8, above). <br /> <br />Reallocation of Salary Rate Ranges. Any employee who is <br />employed in a classification which is reallocated to a <br />different salary rate range from that previously assigned <br /> <br />15 <br />
