<br />ARTICLE VI <br /> <br />6.0 FIRE SCIENCE EDUCATIONAL INCENTIVE ALLOWANCE <br /> <br />6.1 Personnel in the classification of Firefighter who have <br />successfully completed their probationary period with the <br />Santa Ana Fire Department and personnel in the <br />classifications of Fire Engineer and Fire Captain will be <br />paid an educational incentive allowance in the amounts and <br />in accordance with the criteria set forth below. <br /> <br />A. All permanent personnel employed in one of the classes <br />listed above who possess an Associate of Arts Degree, <br />or sixty (60) college semester units (or equivalent <br />quarter units), with major course work in Fire Science <br />or other job-related areas from accredited colleges or <br />universities, regardless of when such courses were <br />completed, will receive a monthly allowance in an <br />amount equal to the product obtained by multiplying <br />the Step "E" base monthly salary rate of Firefighter <br />by five (5) salary rate ranges (approximately 2.5%). <br /> <br />B. All permanent personnel employed in one of the classes <br />listed above who possess a Bachelor of Arts Degree or <br />120 college semester units (or equivalent quarter <br />units), with major course work in Fire Science, Fire <br />Management, Fire Protection Engineering, or other job- <br />related areas from accredited colleges or <br />universities, regardless of when such courses were <br />completed, will receive a monthly allowance in an <br />amount equal to the product obtained by multiplying <br />the step "E" base monthly salary rate of Firefighter <br />by 10 salary rate ranges (approximately 5%) <br /> <br />C. Any dispute as to whether any course of study is job <br />related shall be resolved by the Fire Chief. <br /> <br />6.2 It is the intention of the parties to this Agreement that <br />the Fire Science Educational Incentive Allowance Program <br />provided for in this Article will be replaced, through <br />attrition, by the new Fire Safety Career Development <br />Program set forth in Article VII, contained herein. <br />Therefore, upon implementation of said new program: <br /> <br />A. Current recipients will continue to receive their <br />career incentive allowances, and "safety-member" <br />personnel hired prior to the program adoption date <br />will continue to be eligible to qualify for and <br />participate in the Fire Science Educational Incentive <br />Program as currently constituted until such time as <br /> <br />21 <br />
