<br />CITY OF SANTA ANA <br />PARK DEVELOPMENT, RECREATION PROGRAMS <br />& EDUCATION PARTNERSHIPS <br />CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE <br />May 3, 2005 <br /> <br />MINUTES <br /> <br />The meeting was convened at 5 :50 p.m. in the City Hall, Room 831. <br />The following Council Members were present: Mike Garcia <br />Claudia Alvarez <br />Jose Solorio (Absent) <br /> <br />Staffs present were: Ron Ono, Park Administrative Services Manager, PRCSA <br />Mike Vigliotta, Deputy City Attorney <br />Mike Lopez, Park Superintendent <br />Lorraine Lazarine-McCarty, Community Services Manager <br />Suzi Fwjanic, Associate Park Planner <br /> <br />1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br />ACTION ITEM: Minutes of March I, 2005 meeting were approved as submitted. <br /> <br />2. CAPITAL IMPROVEMENT PROJECTS (Unfunded) <br />Staff provided a list of unfunded capital improvement projects totaling $77 million. Some of <br />the major capital projects implemented in the past were the Santa Ana Children Zoo, <br />Centennial Skate Park, Dan Young Youth Synthetic Turf Soccer field, and Santiago Nature <br />Viewing Facility. Others that will be implemented soon are the Santiago Interpretative <br />Center, Centennial Synthetic Turf Soccer Field #2, JeromelEl Salvador Center <br />Improvements, Centennial Picnic Shelters, Patricia Lane Park, and the McFadden Triangle <br />Landscape. <br /> <br />Staff indicated the city has been very successful in obtaining grants to construct the agency's <br />capital and deferred maintenance projects and has used volunteers to supplement this effort. <br />Although most of the city's Park Bond funding (proposition 12 & 40) was used to address <br />the city's major deferred maintenance work in our park system, staff will continue seeking <br />grant funding for capital projects. <br /> <br />3. BONILLA PROMOTIONS JARIPEO RODEO & CONCERT UPDATE <br />On Sunday March 6, 2005 the Santa Ana Stadium hosted Bonilla Promotions Jaripeo Rodeo <br />& Concert that drew 8,000 spectators. The event included bull riding, dancing horses, lasso <br />artist and mariachi music. The event was a success and the City of Santa Ana earned $12,533 <br />for the rental of the stadium.
