<br />MPT will provide five talented Santa Ana youth players (boys and/or girls) <br />sponsorships that cover the cost of training and conditioning at the Academy. The city <br />can also sponsor players to participate in the program. The program will also include <br />an educational component to ensure the player continue to strive for academic <br />success. The agreement with MPT A to lease Cabrillo Tennis Center will be for 5 <br />years with an option to extend an additional 5 years. Council expressed concerned <br />about the scheduled impact of the program and the loss of tennis revenue. <br />ACTION: Recommend providing a one year contract with options to extend. <br /> <br />3. PROGRAM UPDATE <br />· Health and Fitness Task Force <br />Staff presented the status of the Health and Fitness Task Force and indicated that on <br />August 13,2005, the Madison Park Neighborhood Association will kickoffthe first <br />Safe and Active Living District (SALUD) with a one-hour Walk-A- Thon down the <br />bike trail and Community Faire/Concert at the park. Staff will be seeking grants to <br />fund the program and hire 2 student interns to run the program. <br /> <br />. Youth Expo <br />On October 9, 2005, the Sixth Annual Youth Expo will be held at the Santa Ana <br />College. The Expo will bring together youth and the resources they need to succeed <br />in life, including college recruiters, financial aid counselors, trade school <br />representatives, employers and others. Partners that will be hosting the event include <br />the City of Santa Ana, Santa Ana College, Santa Ana Unified School District, UC <br />Irvine and Cal State University in Fullerton. The Expo will include a resource fair of <br />educational, financial, vocational, community service, volunteer programs, <br />sports/physical fitness, and career opportunities. The fair will also include a concert, <br />cultural fair activities, entertainment, leisure class demonstrations, PolicelFire <br />displays and luncheon. <br /> <br />4. PARK IMPROVEMENT UPDATE <br />. Santa Ana River Task Force <br />Staff presented the status of the Santa Ana River Task Force membership <br />appointments, proposed meeting location and time. Staff is currently assembling <br />information and maps of the Santa Ana River and agenda reviewing information from <br />the City of San Bernardino and Riverside. The first meeting staff will introduce the <br />purpose for the Task Force, present audiovisual materials of the river, outline <br />objectives, focus on the presentation of a mission statement and identifY a schedule <br />for future meetings. <br /> <br />City Council Committee on 2 <br />Park Dev., Recreation Programs & Education Partnership - Minutes <br /> <br />July19,2005 <br /> <br />138-4 <br />
