Parts are replaced in order to maintain safety and <br />effectiveness. A parts inventory is maintained for immediate <br />availability. As such, infrequently required parts are ordered as <br />needed. Shop repairs on large equipment are jobbed out to manufacturer- <br />authorized repair shops based on the work schedule of Fleet <br />Maintenance. In 2002 the City purchased one Vactor sewer truck and four <br />Elgin street sweepers. As the equipment ages, repair costs have <br />increased.
