<br />Iss10/07/05 <br /> <br />RESOLUTION NO. 2005-111 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE <br />CITY OF SANTA ANA AUTHORIZING THE CITY <br />MANAGER AND THE CHIEF OF POLICE TO <br />EXECUTE A GRANT AWARD AGREEMENT FOR <br />THE 2005 COVERDELL FORENSIC SCIENCE <br />IMPROVEMENT GRANT FROM THE UNITED <br />STATES DEPARTMENT OF JUSTICE. <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA <br />ANA AS FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. The City Council of Santa Ana hereby finds, determines and <br />declares as follows: <br /> <br />A. The Santa Ana Police Department has been selected to receive a <br />grant from the United States Department of Justice, in the amount <br />of $48,188.00, from the FY 2005 Paul Coverdell Forensic Science <br />Improvement Grant Program. <br /> <br />B. This Program provides funding to state and local governments to <br />improve the quality and timeliness of forensic science and medical <br />examiner services and/or to eliminate backlogs in the analysis of <br />forensic evidence. <br /> <br />C. The City of Santa Ana will utilize the grant monies to fund a part- <br />time latent print examiner to help diminish and/or eliminate the <br />current backlog of print cases. The funding will also allow the <br />department to expedite the education and training of an existing <br />full-time Forensic Specialist II. <br /> <br />Section 2. The City Council authorizes the City Manager and the Chief of <br />Police, or their designees, to execute the 2005 Coverdell Forensic Science <br />Improvement Grant Agreement in the amount of $48,188.00. <br /> <br />Section 3. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby appoints the <br />Chief of Police, or his designee, as agent for the City of Santa Ana to conduct all <br />negotiations, execute and submit all documents, including but not limited to <br />applications, agreements, amendments and payment requests which may be <br />necessary for the completion of the aforementioned grant. <br /> <br />Reso 2005-111 <br />Page 2 of 2 <br /> <br />20A-3 <br />
