Highlights of this presentation are as follows: <br /> <br />. City Council retreat was held at Bowers Museum on June 24, 2005 <br />. Focus was on development related topics <br />. Five elements of Communities: <br />o Knowledge - be honest about who you are as a community, <br />don't try to imitate others <br />o Vision - lead your community toward a common goal <br />o People - know their skills and abilities <br />o Infrastructure - all aspects must work <br />o Quality - create a unique sense of place <br />. Analysis of strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats <br />. Strengths: <br />o Urban Location <br />o Climate <br />o Freeway Accessibility <br />. Weaknesses: <br />o Geographic Constraints <br />o Negative media perception <br />o Aging Infrastructure <br />o Challenges relating to community economics <br />. Opportunities: <br />o Urban, Cosmopolitan area <br />o Redevelopment potential <br />o Art, Culture and Education <br />. Threats: <br />o Statewide constraints on education funding <br />o Difficulty in changing negative perceptions <br />o Constraints on Infrastructure funding <br />. Important to clarify the difference between policy and process <br />. Revisit current Development Processes and Standards <br />. Priority Focus Areas are as follows: <br />o Santa Ana Boulevard/Downtown <br />o North Main StreetlTriangle Neighborhood/Main Place <br />o East 1st and 4th Street Corridor <br />.
