school year. Individual mentor/mentee meetings will also occur on an individualized basis. For <br />those the Srcccess Boccnd/ participants who enroll in an ROP course, their training will last from <br />135 to 360 hours depending upon the course in which they are enrolled. <br />With respect to adult/participant ratios for Success Bound!, afull-time Community Resource <br />Specialist and apart-time retired Program Specialist working directly in the Secondary <br />Enrichment Programs section of the Career Development/ROP Department will staff program. <br />Both will be assigned to work directly with the participants. Also, apart-time employee from <br />Career Beginnings of Orange County will assist the WIA supported staff throughout the year. <br />Assuming that the participants are divided somewhat equally between the schools, there would <br />be one adult for every 8-10 students during [he weekly meetings which usually last 40 minutes. <br />Regarding the adult mentor program, the staff assists at these monthly meetings and the adult <br />mentors normally have no more than two mentees. These meetings usually are two hours in <br />length. Other adult/participant contact will occur as the WIA staff work with individual <br />participants in job placement, payroll, academic advisement and other similaz situations. Also, <br />most adult mentors meet with their mentee(s) outside of the regular monthly evening meeting <br />environment. <br />PROGRAM GOALS/OBJECTIVES and PERFORMANCE LEVELS <br />for <br />SUCCESS BOUND! <br />As stated in the Executive Summary portion, the Success Bounds program has a tazget of thirty <br />(30) participants attending secondary programs with in the Santa Ana Unified School District <br />who will be high school seniors during the 2005/06 school yeaz. The specific WIA program <br />elements duectly supported by the funding requested in this RFP response are <br />A) educational activities leading to high school graduation, <br />D) paid/unpaid work experiences, <br />F) leadership development, <br />G) supportive services, <br />H) adult mentoring activities, <br />I) 12 months + follow-up services and <br />J) comprehensive guidance & counseling. <br />Participants will have access to the other two services (B; alternative secondary school services <br />and E; occupational skill training) through other existing District programs. Participants would <br />also be able to investigate and access similar services from other providers in the Youth Service <br />Provider Network. <br />Participation in specific services will be based on both the assessed needs of potential <br />participants and their expressed interests. It is a goal of the program to enroll all 30 participants <br />by the end of September, 2005. Several key elements of the overall Success Bound! program <br />involve early advisement and enrollment. Individual participant's previous scholastic history and <br />test scores will govern which academic course they should take. If tutorial remediation is <br />needed, incentives in the form of pay will be offered to encourage participation en lieu of other <br />work-related activities. Otherwise, participants will be encouraged to enroll in career/work <br />related courses that are relevant for their chosen career pathway during the summer. <br />Experience with both WIA and JTPA programs have <br />enrollment process is almost always more difficult <br />anticipated.
