<br />uniformed, "safety-member" personnel per calendar year <br />(on a non-cumulative basis) for "personal necessity <br />leave," which circumstances shall be limited to serious <br />accidents involving members of the employee's immediate <br />family, childbirth, medical or dental appointments for <br />members of the employee's household, imminent danger to <br />the employee's home or other valuable property, or the <br />existence of external circumstances beyond the employee's <br />control making it impractical for him or her to report to <br />duty. <br /> <br />K. Payment for Unused Sick Leave. <br /> <br />1. Payment criteria and limitations. <br /> <br />a. Upon nondisciplinary termination of employment <br />after ten (10) years cumulative full-time <br />service with the City, each qualified employee <br />with less than twenty-five (25) years of <br />cumulative full-time service with the City shall <br />be entitled to payment for one-third (1/3) of <br />the total sick leave benefit credited to his or <br />her account upon the effective date of such <br />termination, not to exceed a maximum limit of <br />427 hours for employees working an eight (8) <br />hour schedule or 640 hours for employees working <br />a twelve (12) hour schedule, at the rate of pay <br />effective on the date of such termination. <br /> <br />b. Affected qualified employees who have completed <br />twenty-five (25) years or more of cumulative <br />full-time service with the City shall be <br />entitled to payment for two-thirds (2/3) of the <br />total sick leave benefit credited to his or her <br />account upon the effective date of such <br />termination, not to exceed a maximum limit of <br />1,067 hours for employees working an eight (8) <br />hour schedule or 1,600 hours for employees <br />working a twelve (12) hour schedule, at the rate <br />of pay effecti ve on the date of such <br />termination. <br /> <br />c. At the employee's election, payment of unused <br />sick leave may be received in either a lump sum <br />of money, or in equal monthly payments for a <br />period of up to five (5) years. <br /> <br />38 <br />
