Award a contract to Bound Tree Medical, LLC for the purchase of <br />Mark I Nerve Agent Antidote Kits in the amount of $13,215.53. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />On August 16, 2004, the City Council accepted a $15 million Urban Area <br />Security Initiative grant from the federal Department of Homeland <br />Security, through the State of California, Office of Homeland Security. <br />This initiative was designed to enhance the domestic preparedness of <br />urban areas by ensuring that all emergency first responders have <br />adequate equipment and systems to prevent, respond to and recover from <br />acts of terrorism. The grant provides total reimbursement to local <br />agencies for equipment purchases approved and authorized by the Office <br />of Disaster Preparedness. <br /> <br />The Fire Department requires Mark I, Nerve Agent Antidote Kits <br />containing antidotes to be used in instances of exposure to a nerve or <br />organophosphate agent. The antidote relieves, counteracts, or reverses <br />the effects of poisons or drugs such as nerve agents. The Mark I kit <br />consists of two auto- inj ectors containing Atropine Sulfate and <br />Pralidoxime Chloride. The auto-injectors are self-contained, compact <br />injection systems that come equipped with a pre-measured dose of <br />antidote, permitting rapid administration of the antidote, preventing <br /> <br />22C-1 <br />
