<br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br /> <br />~ <br />~ <br /> <br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br /> <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br /> <br />JANUARY 17, 2006 <br />TITLE: <br /> <br />RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING <br />PARTICIPATION IN THE STATE <br />CALIFORNIA CULTURAL AND <br />HISTORICAL ENDOWMENT GRANT <br /> <br /> <br />PROGRAM("; /;7 1).2 . <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER <br /> <br />OF <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br />o As Recommended <br />o As Amended <br />o Ordinance on 15t Reading <br />o Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />o Implementing Resolution <br />o Set Public Hearing For <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Adopt a resolution authorizing the submittal of a grant application to the <br />California Cultural and Historical Endowment Grant Program for the Birch <br />Park Historical Restoration project in the amount of $511,450. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />The California Cultural and Historical Endowment was established under the <br />California Clean Water, Clean Air, Safe Neighborhood Parks, and Coastal <br />Protection Act of 2002 (Proposition 40). The program provides funds for <br />projects that tell the stories of California as a unified society and of <br />the many groups of people that together comprise historic and modern <br />California. Approximately $43 million is available to fund projects <br />during the current grant cycle. <br /> <br />The Parks, Recreation, and Community Services Agency requests <br />authorization to submit a grant application in the amount of $511,450 for <br />the historical restoration of Birch Park. Builtin 1910, Birch Park is <br />the oldest park in Santa Ana. The proposed proj ect will construct a <br />replication of the park's historical band stand, a 1,300 square foot <br />storage building, and provide ancillary parking accommodations.
