11.6 Unauthorized Absence. unauthorized absence from duty for any duration of time may be <br />considered cause for dismissal. <br />11.7 Authorized Absence Without Pay -Short Term. Absence without pay, not to exceed five (5) <br />consecutive working days, maybe authorized by the Police Chief. Absence without pay, not <br />to exceed fifteen (15) calendar days, maybe authorized by the Department with the approval <br />of the City Manager. Such an absence may be authorized only if, in the judgment of the <br />Police Chief, it serves the best interest of the City. <br />11.8 Authorized Absence Without Pang Term. Upon receipt of a written request from an <br />employee having permanent status plus action by the Police Chief recommending approval of <br />the request, the City Manager may grant a leave of absence without pay for up to six (6) <br />months. <br />An employee returning to duty with the City shall inform the Police Chief and the Executive <br />Director of Personnel Services of his or her intention at least thirty (30) calendar days prior to <br />the expiration of the six (6) months' period or a shorter period of the full six (6) months if <br />not taken. Upon receipt of such notice, the Police Chief will take steps necessary to restore <br />the employee to his or her former position. <br />11.9 Industrial Leave. <br />A. Each "safety member" employee covered by the provisions of Labor Code Section <br />4850 who is compelled to be absent from duty because of an illness or injury covered <br />by the State of California Workers' Compensation Insurance and Safety Act shall, in <br />lieu of temporary disability compensation payable under the aforementioned Act, <br />continue to be paid his or her normal salary and accrue other benefits in accordance <br />with the provisions of Labor Code Section 4850. <br />B. Any period of time during which an employee is required to be absent from his or her <br />position by reason of an industrial injury or industrial illness for which he or she is <br />entitled to receive compensation shall not be considered a break in continuous service <br />for the purpose of his or her right to salary adjustments or to the accrual of vacation, <br />seniority and any other benefits. <br />11.10 Administrative Leave Policy. The City Manager is authorized to grant, at his discretion, paid <br />or unpaid administrative leave for employees covered by this Agreement. <br />11.11 Catastrophic Leave Donation. In order to assist employees otherwise granted leave of <br />absence without pay by the City Manager because of catastrophic non-industrial medical <br />condition or injury, the City and Association agree to implement a Catastrophic Leave <br />Donation procedure,. <br />31 <br />
