MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING <br />OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF <br />SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA <br /> <br />OCTOBER 19, 1987 <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order in Room 423, at 2:20 p.m., by Mayor Dan <br />Young, City Hall, 20 Civic Center Plaza. Councilmembers present were John <br />Acosta, Daniel E. Griset, Patricia A. McGuigan, Miguel A. Pulido and Mayor <br />Young. Also present were City Manager David N. Ream, City Attorney Edward <br />J. Cooper and Clerk of the Council Janice C. Guy. <br /> <br />Councilmembers Wilson B. Hart and Ron May joined the meeting at 2:35 p.m. <br />and 2:48 p.m., respectively. <br /> <br />COUNCIL STUDY SESSION <br /> <br />"Super" Committee Report <br /> <br />The Mayor introduced a video presentation which had been prepared by the <br />Transportation "Super" Committee of the Orange County Division of the <br />League of California Cities. After airing of the video, "Orange County <br />Transportation Meeting the Challenge Head On," the Mayor requested support <br />of the Committee's recommendations and responded to specific questions <br />posed by Councilmembers. <br /> <br />Child Care Task Force <br /> <br />Lori Howard, Council Services Manager, reported that Mayor Young and <br />Councilmember May had met with Santa Ana Unified School District Board <br />Member Sadie Reed and Mary Douglas of the YWCA for the purpose of <br />discussing ways the City might cooperate with the District in providing <br />day care during pre-and-post school hours. <br /> <br />Councilmembers discussed formation of an ad-hoc task force to investigate <br />the issue. Councilmember Griset noted a need for employer-based efforts <br />particularly among private employers, and inquired into Santa Ana's <br />perspective as a major employer in providing day care. <br /> <br />The Council informally concurred on proceeding both with a child care <br />exploratory on child care with the School District study, and <br />investigation of the provision of day care by the City, with the latter <br />issue to be reported on to Council in approximately 60 days. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 283 OCTOBER 19, 1987 <br /> <br /> <br />
