90.C. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Councilm~mber Norton requested the Police Chief investigate and report <br />concerning an auto accident at 200 E. McFadden on June l, 1990, <br />particularly the circumstances which resulted in a Police report not <br />being prepared for the accident. <br /> <br />Councilmember Norton expressed concern regarding the large number of <br />vacancies in the Police Department, and inquired as to whether <br />implementation of a 4/10 work schedule would assist in the recruitment of <br />additional officers. <br /> <br />The Police Chief reported current data showed 4/10 schedules to be more <br />effective with retention than recruitment. <br /> <br />Councilmember Norton expressed his intention to request an advisory <br />measure be placed on the November ballot relative to levying an <br />assessment for public safety funding. <br /> <br />In response to Norton's inquiry, Allen Doby, Director of Recreation and <br />Community Services, indicated the arming of the Park Rangers was in <br />process. <br /> <br />In response to Councilmember Pulido's request, the City Manager indicated <br />that the issue of the restriction of shopping carts to store premises <br />would be scheduled for a Council Study Session in July. <br /> <br />Councilmember Pulido thanked all those in the listening audience who had <br />voted against Measure A, the initiative which would have forced all <br />future jails to be located in Santa Ana. <br /> <br />Councilmember McGuigan encouraged the listening audience to drive <br />carefully, particularly during the school vacation period when more <br />children were on the streets. <br /> <br />Councilmember May indicated he would be meeting with representatives of <br />Vons, Ralphs, and Alpha Beta regarding shopping in Santa Aha. <br /> <br />In response to Mayor Pro Tem Acosta's inquiry, Planning Director Ken <br />Adams indicated revised residential standards would be submitted to the <br />Planning Commission in July which would ultimately impact a homeowner <br />with a breezeway enclosure problem in Northwest Santa Ana. <br /> <br />Mayor Pro Tem Acosta requested that a Study Session be held with regard <br />to Code requirements and enforcement policies regarding street vendors. <br /> <br />70.A. <br /> <br />MOTION: <br /> <br />CLOSED SESSION REPORT <br /> <br />Authorize settlements as follows: <br /> <br />Claim Nos. 89-206, 207, and 90-009 - Castillo, in the amount of <br />$26,0O0.00. <br /> <br />Santos vs. City of Santa Aha, in the amount of $25,000.00. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 193 JUNE 18, 1990 <br /> <br /> <br />
