NO.06-032) <br /> <br />APPROVED <br />o As Recommended <br />o As Amended <br />o Ordinance on 1 st Reading <br />o Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />o Implementing Resolution <br />o Set Public Hearing For <br /> <br />Ma <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Award contracts for cellular phones, accessories, and airtime service <br />based upon State of California contracts for a period of three-years in <br />the annual aggregate amount not to exceed $345,000 with the following <br />vendors: <br /> <br />Nextel Communications <br />Verizon Wireless <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />The City of Santa Ana utilizes cellular phones and airtime services for <br />field personnel, and for staff required to respond in immediate or <br />emergency situations. Verizon Wireless provides a variety of analog <br />and digital cellular phones designed to meet the individual <br />requirements of staff. Nextel Communications provides a dual system <br />phone that functions both as a mobile phone and two-way radio, <br />providing a link between field personnel and office operations. Both <br />vendors provide various airtime plans to fit staff requirements. <br /> <br />Santa Ana City Ordinance No. NS-2312 authorizes the City to purchase <br />against contracts from any public agency utilizing a competitive <br />process. Recently, the State of California awarded contracts for <br />cellular phones, accessories, and airtime service to Nextel <br />Communications and Verizon Wireless. The contracts were awarded based <br />upon a competitive bid process, and will provide the City with the <br />current cellular phone equipment and service as well as substantial <br />discounts from list price. <br /> <br />22F-1 <br /> <br />CS 3i3J <br />
