REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br />MARCH 20, 2006 <br />TITLE: <br />RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING <br />TRANSPORTATION ENHANCEMENT <br />ACTIVITIES PROGRAM GRANT <br />AP,PLICATI ONS . <br />ITY <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />APPROVED <br />As Recommended <br />As Amended <br />Ordinance on 15' Reading <br />Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />Implementing Resolution <br />Set Public Hearing For_ <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Adopt a resolution authorizing the Executive Director of the Public Work <br />Agency to submit projects for funding under the Transportation <br />Enhancement Activities Program. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The Orange County Transportation Authority is accepting grant <br />applications for the Transportation Enhancement Activities (TEA) Program. <br />The goal of the TEA Program is to help cities better integrate <br />transportation facilities into their infrastructure and to provide an <br />overall better quality of life. The total estimated funding amount for <br />this cycle is $8.2 million, divided into two program areas which will <br />receive $4.1 million each over two years: 1) Bicycle and Pedestrian <br />Facilities and 2) Landscaping and Scenic Beautification. <br />The Public Works Agency and Parks, Recreation and Community Services <br />Agency are submitting applications for five projects under the two <br />programs. These projects are as follows: <br />PROJECTS <br />FY <br />1. MacArthur Boulevard Golden Loop Trail Head Landscaping 06/07 <br />2. Main Street Archway Sign 05/06 <br />3. Maple Street Bike Trail Enhancement Project 06/07 <br />4. Santa Ana Depot Art Wall 05/06 <br />5. Santiago Creek Bike Trail Gap Closure & Enhancement 06/07 <br />Improvements include: landscaping & irrigation at MacArthur Golden <br />Trailhead, a new archway sign on Main Street north of Warner avenue, <br />exercise equipment and landscaping at the Maple/Occidental Bike Trail, <br />supplemental funding for the art wall at the Depot, and landscape <br />enhancement of the Santiago Bike trail at the I-5 Freeway and at Main <br />Street. <br />I~ "~;i <br />~~ <br />~aucauon !st <br />55A-1 <br />
