NO. 06-027) <br />r n'~ <br />`E^aUCAt 1 0J1 INS[i~1\ <br />`1/ \ ~ <br />VVV CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br />CITY MANAGER <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br />APPROVED <br />^ As Recommended <br />^ As Amended <br />^ Ordinance on 1st Reading <br />^ Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />^ Implementing Resolution <br />^ Set Public Hearing For <br />CONTINUED TO <br />FILE NUMBER <br />Award a contract to Bakersfield Well and Pump Co. for the purchase and <br />installation of motors at the Garthe Pumping Station in the amount of <br />$30,052. <br />DISCUSSION <br />The Public Works Agency's Water Resources Division is upgrading the <br />motor control center at the Garthe Pumping Station. The upgrade will <br />include the installation of variable speed motor drives. The existing <br />pump motors operate with low efficiency and are not compatible with a <br />variable speed motor drive. The motors will be replaced with 96.4 <br />percent efficient motors that are compatible with a variable speed <br />motor drive. Once the upgrade at the Garthe Pumping Station is <br />complete, the pumps will start more smoothly, use less energy, and the <br />pressure surging into the water lines will be reduced. <br />The notice inviting bids was advertised on February 13 and 15, 2006, <br />and bids were solicited. A summary of the bid invitations and bids <br />received is as follows: <br />15 Invitations For Bid mailed <br />1 Invitation For Bid mailed to a Santa Ana vendor <br />3 Bids received <br />Bids were received, opened on February 28, 2006, and evaluated (Exhibit <br />1) The bid received from Bakersfield Well and Pump Co. is responsive <br />to the specifications and meets the City's requirements. <br />22E-1 <br />CS 3d3 <br />
