<br />\. <br /> <br />SANTA ANA CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE <br />PUBLIC SAFETY <br />Minutes of Meeting <br />May 19, 2003 <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />The meeting was convened at 4:40 p.m. in the Police Department 4th Floor <br />Conference Room, 60 Civic Center Plaza, Santa Ana, California. <br /> <br />ATTENDANCE <br />Councilmembers present were: Mayor Pro Tem Brett Franklin, Councilmembers <br />Alberta Christy, Claudia Alvarez (Absent). <br /> <br />Staff present: City Manager Dave Ream; Assistant City Attorney Paula <br />Coleman; Police Chief Paul Walters; Fire Chief Marc Martin; Fire Marshal Lori <br />Smith; PRCS Director Gerardo Mouet; Police Captain George Saadeh; Police <br />Lieutenant Tony Levatino. <br /> <br />SUMMARY OF DISCUSSIONS <br /> <br />1. <br /> <br />APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />The Minutes of the April 21, 2003 meeting were approved. <br /> <br />2. <br /> <br />FIREWORKS PROGRAM <br /> <br />Chief Martin and Lori Smith reviewed the fireworks program for 2003. <br />They provided the Committee with a list of 84 organizations that are being <br />evaluated for booths and their booth locations. These organizations will <br />be fully screened for Municipal Code compliance. They also provided a <br />list of organizations that are not being invited back to participate in 2003 <br />Fireworks program due to violations of the Santa Ana Municipal Code. <br /> <br />Gerardo Mouet answered questions from the Committee regarding the <br />activities planned for Centennial Park on July 4, 2003. <br /> <br />3. <br /> <br />AUTOMATED RED LIGHT ENFORCEMENT SITES <br /> <br />Lieutenant Levatino and Captain Saadeh reviewed the Automated Red <br />Light Enforcement sites and the test system that is in operation at <br />McFadden and Harbor. A 30-day warning period went into effect on May <br />18, 2003 to allow citizens to become accustomed to the new system. <br />There will also be public service announcements advising the public of the <br />new system. <br /> <br />\.,.. . <br />
