<br />~ <br /> <br />SANTA ANA CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE <br />PUBLIC SAFETY <br />Minutes of Meeting <br />January 20, 2004 <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />Due to the lack of a quorum, an information-only meeting was held in the Police <br />Department 4th Floor Conference Room, 60 Civic Center Plaza, Santa Ana, <br />California. <br /> <br />ATTENDANCE <br />Councilmembers present: Mayor Pro Tem Brett Franklin (Absent), <br />Councilmembers Alberta Christy, Claudia Alvarez (Absent). <br /> <br />Staff present: Police Chief Paul Walters, Fire Chief Phil Garcia, Fire Marshal <br />Lori Smith, PRCS Assistant Director Gerardo Mouet, Police Lt. Phil Archer, Parks <br />Superintendent Mike Lopez; Park Ranger Randy Eldridge <br /> <br />Public present: Representatives from TNT Fireworks, (John Kelly, Mark <br />Gasman, Dave Guchione) and Kim McPeck <br /> <br />\. <br /> <br />SUMMARY OF DISCUSSIONS <br /> <br />1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />Approval of Minutes of the November 17, 2003 meeting was deferred until <br />the next scheduled meeting. <br /> <br />2. POTENTIAL FIREWORKS ORDINANCE CHANGES <br /> <br />Fire Marshall Smith stated the purpose for having the item on the agenda <br />was to seek direction from the Committee to continue with attrition of <br />fireworks booths or to activate a lottery. <br /> <br />Representatives from TNT Fireworks reviewed what they are doing to <br />educate the public on how to use fireworks safely. <br /> <br />Mr. McPeck spoke about the need for new groups to have an opportunity <br />to obtain a fireworks stand. <br /> <br />\. <br />
