<br />""'" <br /> <br />SANTA ANA CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE <br />PUBLIC SAFETY <br />Minutes of Meeting <br />September 13, 2004 <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />The meeting was convened at 6:15 p.m. in City Hall, 20 Civic Center Plaza, 8th <br />Floor, Room 831, Santa Ana, California. <br /> <br />ATTENDANCE <br />Councilmembers present: Councilmembers Alberta Christy, Claudia Alvarez. <br /> <br />Staff present: Assistant City Attorney Paula Coleman, Police Chief Paul Walters, <br />Fire Chief Phil Garcia, Fire Marshal Lori Smith, and Police Lieutenant Alan <br />Caddell. <br /> <br />SUMMARY OF DISCUSSIONS <br /> <br />1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />Approved Minutes of the July 12, 2004 meeting. <br /> <br />""'" <br /> <br />2. <br /> <br />FIREWORKS UPDATE <br /> <br />Fire Marshal Smith provided the Committee with the Fireworks <br />membership percentages based on parent organization. The <br />Committee will review the list and look at new ordinance revisions. <br />Fire Marshal Smith also reviewed an educational campaign that will <br />include Fireworks Safety flyers to be distributed at school <br />assemblies and public safety announcements for the Hispanic media <br />for May and June releases. Fire Prevention will also distribute <br />educational information at the Youth Expo on October 2, 2004. <br /> <br />3. <br /> <br />GRAFFITI TASK FORCE <br /> <br />\... <br /> <br />Lt. Caddell reviewed the Police Department's Graffiti Task Force <br />Program that has been in effect since 1992 and what their mission <br />and objectives are. He also reviewed why the level of graffiti <br />increases and what is being done to lower the amount of graffiti. He <br />related that the Task Force works closely with the Gang Detail and <br />other City Departments and outside agencies to share information <br />on the graffiti activity. The committee asked the Department to <br />check on the Ordinance for sale of spray paint at businesses to see <br />if it is being enforced. <br />
