<br />Santa Ana TechnoloQY Consortium <br />· The Santa Ana Public Access Computer Center Directory has been .." <br />updated <br />· Directory has been made available online on the City's web site and hard <br />copies are available for distribution <br />· Several service providers have eliminated public access services or <br />reduced service hours due to budget cut backs <br /> <br />Hope Worldwide Computer Genius ProQram <br />· Hope Worldwide is the non-profit arm of the Los Angeles Church of Christ <br />which previously had an Orange County branch office located in Irvine <br />· The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Agency facilitated the <br />program development and implementation in Santa Ana schools for <br />several years until 2002 <br />· The program offers technology training to intermediate school students <br />who receive a free computer at the end of an eight week training program <br />· The number of student participants is dependent on the number of <br />donated computers that Hope Worldwide is able to secure <br />· In FY 02-03, Hope Worldwide worked directly with the schools, providing <br />services at Villa Intermediate School <br />· Parks discontinued involvement because the program was firmly <br />established in the Santa Ana Unified School District <br />· Hope Worldwide has requested that the City resume facilitating services " ~ <br />since the Orange County branch office in Irvine has closed - <br />· A partnership agreement with Hope Worldwide will be considered to <br />provide the program at the McFadden Technology and Learning Center <br /> <br />McFadden TechnoloQY and LearninQ Center <br />· The McFadden Branch Library has been transformed into a Technology <br />and Learning Center operated by Parks, Recreation, and Community <br />Services Agency effective July 1, 2003 through a $248,375 one-year grant <br />from the United States Department of Education <br />· Homework assistance for youths and access to computers for youths and <br />adults will be continued <br />· Cultural arts, career development, and tutoring services will be added for <br />youth <br /> <br />. <br /> <br />S8 20 (Sher) - Hazardous E-waste Recycling <br />A letter in support of SB20 has been signed by the Mayor and sent to Senator <br />Byron Sher on June 30, 2003. The Bill would require manufacturers of <br />hazardous electronics to take responsibility for the safe handling and recycling of <br />their products when the product life has ended <br /> <br />Upcoming Technology Related Council Items <br />Debbie Kurita, Assistant City Manager reported that there were no upcoming <br />technology related items scheduled for approval by the Council in August. <br /> <br />.." <br />
