PERIOD REVIVAL AND SPANISH COLONIAL REVIVAL (1915-1940) <br /> <br /> <br />English Tudor <br /> <br />Spanish Colonial Revival <br /> <br />Soldiers returning from World War I brought with them visions of French and English Tudors, <br />Norman castles, Moorish and Spanish homes, and Dutch buildings. Every man could have his <br />"castle" in almost any style he wanted. Spanish and other styles were mixed with a creative <br />abandon. With so many newlyweds and families ready to settle down, the Spanish Colonial or <br />Period Revival house offered a romantic and pleasant home. <br /> <br />Character Defininq Features <br />. Stucco exterior <br />· Red tile gabled roofs with red tiles along top of parapet (Spanish Colonial Revival) <br />· Recessed windows with wood trim <br />. Wood casement windows <br />. Small covered entryways <br />· Balconies with wrought iron or turned wood balusters <br />· Large focal window on front fayade <br />· Arched windows and porch openings (semicircular, elliptical, or segmental) <br />· Tall chimneys (usually with some decoration) <br />· Use of decorative iron work and tiles on Spanish Colonial Revival style residences <br /> <br />18 <br /> <br />
