• Repairing window frames and sashes by patching, splicing, consolidating or otherwise <br />reinforcing features is encouraged. Such repair may also include replacement in kind of <br />those parts that are either extensively deteriorated or are missing. <br />• When window replacement is necessary, the new window should match the original as <br />closely as possible. Replacing in-kind an entire window that is too deteriorated to repair is <br />allowed. If using the same kind of material is not feasible, then a compatible substitute may <br />be considered for side or rear elevations not visible from public streets. <br />• Retaining the original window opening and size or opening is encouraged. <br />• Preserving original wood window trims or replicating with similar materials is encouraged. <br />• Replacement windows should be of the same operating type as the original window. <br />• Window trims should be replaced with like materials and match as closely as possible to the <br />original, if deteriorated or missing. <br /> <br />APPROPRIATE INAPPROPRIATE <br />The following methods are not recommended when repairing or replacing windows: <br />Removal of original window features or trims in part or whole. <br />Replacing windows in openings that are smaller or larger or a different shape than original. <br />Removing window mountings and/or changing spacing or grouping from that of original <br />windows. <br />28 <br /> <br />~~~~ r~pproprraie f+~ummum ~noer wmaow <br />
