Citywide Design Guidelines April 17, 2006 Page 2 To complete this document, staff held a series of meetings with Ad Hoc Committees from the Planning Commission and Historic Resources Commission over a period of one and a half years. At the conclusion of these Ad Hoc Committee sessions, a joint meeting was held in September 2005 with the Historic Resources Commission and Planning Commission to discuss the document. All comments generated from these Commissions have been incorporated into the final version of the document. In addition, public outreach has included briefings and presentations to the Communication Linkages Forum, the Environmental and Transportation Advisory Committee and the Community Redevelopment and Housing Commission. Many of the provisions found in the guidelines serve to address issues raised by neighborhoods over the years. On November 3, 2005, the Historic Resources Commission unanimously recommended that the City Council adopt the Citywide Design Guidelines. On November 14, 2005, the Planning Commission also unanimously recommended that the City Council adopt the Citywide Design Guidelines. Staff is recommending that the City Council adopt a resolution approving the Citywide Design Guidelines. CEQA COMPLIANCE In accordance with the California Environmental Quality Act, the recommended action is exempt from further review pursuant to Section 15308. This Class 8 exemption allows actions by government agencies to assure the maintenance and protection of the environment. Categorical Exemption No. 2006-33 will be filed for this project.
