<br />'-' <br /> <br />'wi <br /> <br />C'i <br /> <br />VI. <br /> <br />GOALS AND OBJECTIVES <br />IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY <br /> <br />Mission Statement The purpose of Discovery Museum of Orange County (DMOC) is to <br />preserve and promote a greater understanding and appreciation of the heritage oJ the region. <br />Themuseum presents the cultural and natural history of Orange County...past, present and <br />future...and creates an interactive learning environment for people of all ages. <br /> <br />Goal To provide the educational programs described in the attached brochure, Your Pathway <br />Back In Time. free to interested CDBG qualified elementary schools (Kindergarten through 5~ <br />Grade) for the purpose of stimulating the students' interest and curiosity in local history by using <br />interactive teaching techniques that create meaningful memories for all who participate. These <br />programs are designed to provide a "hands-on" enhancement to elementary curriculum on <br />California History. <br /> <br />Objectives CDBG funds will accomplish the following: <br /> <br />c <br /> <br />1) Outreach Objective: Provide 3000 elementary age students from low to moderate-income <br />families at as many as 30 CDBG eligible schools in Santa Ana with an educational student <br />assembly. These assembly programs take place at the school and eliminate the high cost of <br />student transportation. <br /> <br />Task/Action: <br />A) Notify school principals via mail and follow up telephonecontacts, <br />B) Schedule assembly at interested schools, typically 150 students attend a one-hour <br />presentation, <br />C) Conduct the assemblies utilizing trained interpreters and museum artifacts. <br /> <br />2) Field Trip Objective: Provide 3000 elementary students with a two-hour field trip at the <br />Museum where they attend a tour from one of the programs descibed in the program <br />brochure Your Pathway Back In Time. Teachers can choose and the most popular tours are of <br />the Kellogg House Museum and/or the Eco Art Gallery & Creative Ecology Program. <br /> <br />Task/Action: <br />A) Send brochure and promotional flyers to the principal at each CDBG eligible school for <br />distribution to the teachers, <br />B) Schedule field trips for the schools that want to participate, typically 30 to 60 students <br />attend a field trip at the museum. <br />C) Mail pre and post trip packets to the classroom teachers who schedule a tour, <br />D) Link qualified schools with Enterprise Zone transportation programs, <br />E) Conduct tours, <br />F) Distribute a calendar of free family events to the students as they depart, <br />G) Recruit and review teacher evaluation forms. <br /> <br />() <br /> <br />- <br />EJ(ft-t8tr 1/ <br />
