From: Lieutenant George Saadeh To: DCA LIsa storck

Dale: 711/97 "Time: 12:14:22 PM

Page4of9

"'-'

....,

IMAGE

\I 1 SUA L
DATABASE
TECHNOLOGY

Dial -back security modem configured by Xlmage $750

~: The SAPO Xlmage system is subject to being 'hacked' by outsiders by virtue of 1l1e dial.up modem that is
used to provide system access to X1mage support persoonel.

Solution: A dial.back or call-back modem is a standard modem with a measure of iIltelrlgenca attached to it. The
way the system would work from the SAPO system's perspective is as follows:

. A call is placed to the telephone number 01 the SAPO modem by another system. In most cases thls will be
Xlmage, but other systems could dial-up also. I

. With our current system, the caller would be allowed access to the Xlmage server once a successful connection is
eSlablished. The system is password protected and wilDE! obtaining external access is doubtful, a determined caller
might eventually be able to gaill entrance.

. With a dial.back modem I'l place, the modem at SAPO would terminate the connection batore allowing server
access, then dial a number for X1mage Support (or anyone else whose number is programmed in advance).

. Once the modem at Xlmage Support answers, a connection is made and the call proceeds normally.

Ref: X1mage quote dated April 15, 1997

Slatement of Work: Xlmage wlll add dial back capability 10 the modem by performing the following:

. ReconflQure the Xlmage dial files to reflect a new modem group.
. EstabUsh a tie in the modem server for SAPO.
. Configure and test of new modem that has dial-back capabilities.
. Add an incoming only telephone line to the modem group.
. ReconflQure the Santa Ana Police SPARC serverlor re-dial.
. Send modem to the SA D sile.
. Change out the ellisting modem and test the new one.
. Modify support system software to reflect the diat-back requiremE!nt.

s~ ~~.~ L

Sales Manager Date c,('?,/'l7

XJMAGI.
