Soldiers returning from World War I brought with them visions of French and English Tudors, <br />Norman castles, Moorish and Spanish homes, and Dutch buildings. Every man could have his <br />"castle" in almost any style he wanted. Spanish and other styles were mixed with a creative <br />abandon. With so many newlyweds and families ready to settle down, the Spanish Colonial or <br />Period Revival house offered a romantic and pleasant home. <br />Character Definina Features <br />• Stucco exterior <br />• Red tile gabled roofs with red tiles along top of parapet (Spanish Colonial Revival) <br />• Recessed windows with wood trim <br />• Wood casement windows <br />• Small covered entryways <br />• Balconies with wrought iron or turned wood balusters <br />• Large focal window on front fagade <br />• Arched windows and porch openings (semicircular, elliptical, or segmental) <br />• Tall chimneys (usually with some decoration) <br />• Use of decorative Iron work and tiles on Spanish Colonial Revival style residences <br />1e <br />Resolution No. 2006-022 <br />Page 24 of 71 <br />
