<br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br /> <br />~ <br />~ <br /> <br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br /> <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br /> <br />MAY 15, 2006 <br /> <br />TITLE <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br />AGREEMENT WITH COUNTY OF <br />ORANGE SOCIAL SERVICES <br />AGENCY FOR WELFARE-TO-WORK <br />EMPLOYMENT SERVICES PROGRAMS <br /> <br />o As Recommended <br />o As Amended <br />o Ordinance on 1" Reading <br />o Ordinance on 2"' Reading <br />o Implementing Resolution <br />o Set Public Hearing For <br /> <br />4 <br /> <br />~a <br /> <br />ITY M NAGER <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and <br />the Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement with the County of <br />Orange Social Services Agency to accept funding in the amount of $497,671 <br />for a Community Services Program and a Work Experience Program to be <br />operated by the Santa Ana W/O/R/K Center. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />For the past five years, the City <br />received funding from the County of <br />operate a Community Services Program. <br />has awarded the W/O/R/K Center $78,911 <br />CalWORKs recipients who have received <br />time limit and remain unemployed. <br /> <br />of Santa Ana W/O/R/K Center has <br />Orange Social Services Agency to <br />The Social Services Agency (SSA) <br />to continue providing services to <br />public assistance for the maximum <br /> <br />Also, for the past three years, SSA has funded a work experience program <br />to provide employment subsidies to CalWORKs participants. SSA has <br />awarded the City of Santa Ana W/O/R/K Center $418,760 to continue the <br />Work Experience Program. This program will assist CalWORKs participants <br />to develop skills that will enable them to find and retain stable <br />employment. Both of these programs have been very successful and staff <br />recommends that they be continued. <br /> <br />25A-1 <br />
