'-' ,...,

VI. GOALS AND OBJECTIVESI
IMPLEMENTATION STRATEGY

In the space below, please list the primary goals and objectives fo~ your program. Pr0\1de
projected numbers of Santa Ana residents to .be ser\ed, a~d the kinds of services they would
receive if your program is funded. Also. c;lescnbe the specific actions and tasks that WJuld be
performed on a day-to-day basis to achieve these goals.

See Appendix A for examples.

TKO is providing the most successful youth boxing club of its kind in the City of Santa Ana.
(Orange County?) Membership in TKO continues to grow as, next to soccer, it is the most
popular sport among the Latino community. TKO serves an average of 50 to 75 young men
and women every night. Membership in TKO is a positive alternative to gang membership.

This program teaches our youth how to establish goals and how to achieve those goals within
a structured program through the establishment of personal discipline and the enhancement
of self-esteem. Goals set and achieved require daily activity. These activities are very often
observed and supported by the active involvement of parents and trainers.

Communities such as Santa Ana benefit from youth programs that provide a challenge. The
need to design and implement a youth boxing program is very essential in a community
longing for youth programs to meet the needs and interest of our community without taxing
the family's resources. TKO teaches our youth the value of keeping their bodies healthy
through diet, nutrition and regular daily exercise. Success at local, state and national
championship levels has developed some of the best-conditioned young men and women in
Santa Ana.

The foundation for academic achieve.ft1ents is supported by quarterly monitoring of grades,
attendance and citizenship of each student athlete. It is TKO's intent to maintain education
and athletics in an environment that teaches goals and the values of achieving those goals.

Presently, the program is designed for boys and girls ages 8 to 18. TKO provides an
ongoing, structured youth boxing prog,'am combining the essential elements of teaching,
learning and competition. As our membership continues to grow, our needs grow. One of
our goals is to relocate to a larger facility in order to also accommodate the large number of
young men and women from 19 to 25 years of age who continually express interest in joining
TKO. It is imperative that we be able to accommodate this age group as they attempt to
seek alternatives to the gang lifestyl<: they have been involved in. Another goal is to continue
to seek additional qualified trainers.

TKO's obJel!\ives are: gang and drug abuse awareness, educational achievement, self-esteem
development and recreational services.

Fa( d..OO SArJT-4 ANA /(cSIOENr5.

EXIff'6 II A
