Councilmember Pulido commended Wilshire Square resident Mark La Font for the <br />exceptional beautification work on the pond on La Font's property. <br /> <br />Councilmember Mills asked City Manager Ream to devise a way of giving advance notice to <br />residents regarding collection of dog license fees, e.g., through the water billing system. <br />Mills also requested Ream work with the Environmental and Transportation Advisory <br />Committee to develop a formal City policy on tree removal. <br /> <br />Councilmember Moreno recommended that the area to be vacated by the old Corporate Yard <br />(after the new Corporate Yard opens) be used for Delhi Park's expansion, and asked the <br />Council to support his proposal to fund a new Delhi community center in the FY 94-95 <br />budget. <br /> <br />Mayor Young reported on his recent Sacramento trip: <br /> <br />The mayors of the 10 largest California cities met with Senator Roberti, Speaker <br />Brown, and Governor Wilson to discuss the unique problems facing big cities <br />regarding the State budget and other legislative issues; <br /> <br />Following those meetings, a number of State budget revisions favorable to local <br />governments ensued, e.g., the Governor's decision to reduce the amount to be <br />transferred from redevelopment agencies to the State from more than $300 <br />million to $68 million; and <br /> <br />The 10 mayors committed to organize themselves into a formal group that <br />would meet on a quarterly basis to focus public attention on big cities' special <br />problems on local government legislation, city government reorganization, <br />redevelopment law, and other macro issues. <br /> <br />Mayor Young noted that Community Development Agency Executive Director Cindy Nelson <br />had been elected President of the California Redevelopment Association and requested <br />Nelson to keep the Council abreast of pending legislation relative to redevelopment law <br />reforms. <br /> <br />Young then expressed his strong desire to work with the big cities' mayors group and asked <br />for the Council's support in formulating an agenda that would best represent the City's <br />interests. <br /> <br />RECESSED TO CLOSED SESSION - ROOM 147 - 7:36 P.M. <br /> <br />The Assistant Clerk of the Council announced that the City Council was recessing to Closed <br />Session pursuant to: <br /> <br />Government Code Section 54957.6 to meet with its designated representatives <br />regarding labor relations matters; <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUT~ 231 JUNE 7, 1993 <br /> <br /> <br />
