NO. 06-096) <br /> <br />fJ~~. <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER <br /> <br />CONTiNUED TO <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Award a contract to ProForce Law Enforcement for Taser electronic control <br />devices, ammunition and accessories in the amount not to exceed $250,000. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />The Santa Ana Police Department utilizes electronic control devices to gain <br />control over violently resisting subjects. The new X26 Taser will replace, <br />supplement and upgrade the department's current inventory of M26 Taser <br />electronic control devices. The M26 Tasers purchased in 2001 are obsolete <br />and due for replacement. The new X26 Taser electronic control device is <br />smaller, lighter, and more effective. It also incorporates a data chip <br />that records the time, date and duration of discharge each time the Taser <br />is used. Ammunition and accessories for the X26 Taser are also required. <br /> <br />ProForce Law Enforcement is the sole source distributor for the X26 Taser <br />electronic control devices, ammunition and accessories for California. As <br />a result, staff recommends Council approval of the recommended action. <br /> <br />FISCAL IMPACT <br /> <br />Funds are available in the Law Enforcement Services Fund Operating <br />Materials & Supplies account (account no. 128-349-6391) <br /> <br />APPROVED AS TO FUNDS AND ACCOUNTS: <br /> <br />I " 1'- <br />..
