<br />CITY OF SANTA ANA <br />PARK DEVELOPMENT, RECREATION PROGRAMS <br />& EDUCATION PARTNERSHIPS <br />CITY COUNCIL COMMITTEE <br />April 18, 2006 <br /> <br />MINUTES <br /> <br />CALL TO ORDER <br />The meeting convened at 6:00 p.m. in the City Hall, Room 831, 20 Civic Center Plaza, <br />Santa Ana, California <br /> <br />ATTENDANCE <br />The following Councilmembers were present: Claudia Alvarez, Mike Garcia and Jose <br />Solorio. <br /> <br />Staff present were: Gerardo Mouet, Executive Director Parks, Recreation and <br />Community Services; Ron Ono, Administrative Services Manager and Lorraine Lazarine <br />McCarty, Community Affairs Manager. <br /> <br />Guest: Ray Roman CEO, Netz 4 Life <br /> <br />AGENDA ITEMS <br /> <br />1. APPROVAL OF MINUTES <br /> <br />Action Item: Minutes of February 7, 2006 approved as submitted. <br /> <br />2. NETZ 4 LIFE <br />. Ray Roman presented the purpose of his organization, which is a non-profit <br />organization devoted to revitalizing neglected community athletic <br />infrastructure. The organization uses educational and leadership strengths in <br />building programs to engage and motivate disadvantaged youth to restore <br />their communities. The program proposes to use existing outdoor courts, <br />replacing the basketball nets, revitalizing the courts, hosting basketball <br />tournaments and clinics and offering a variety of training and events. The <br />program proposes to reach out to young community leaders and provide them <br />with the tools and hope for the future. Mr. Roman proposes to start his 15 <br />week program at EJ Salvador Park. The program will consist of three 5-week <br />sessions.
