Pruning the trees restores <br />their visual appearance, removes any safety hazards and is part of a normal <br />maintenance program designed to keep the trees healthy. An International <br />Society of Arboriculture Certified Arborist will supervise the Class I fine <br />pruning of the City trees. <br /> <br />The notice inviting bids was advertised on July 7 and 10, 2006, and bids <br />were solicited. A summary of the bid invitations and bids received is as <br />follows: <br /> <br />17 Invitations For Bid mailed <br />5 Invitations For Bid mailed to Santa Ana vendors <br />4 Bids received <br />1 Bid received from a Santa Ana vendor <br /> <br />Bids were received, opened on August 2, 2006, and evaluated (Exhibit 1). <br />The bid received from ProCare Tree Service, Inc. is responsive to the <br />specification and meets the City's requirements. The variance in price <br />between the bid from Valley Crest, a Santa Ana vendor, and the others is <br />due almost entirely to higher quoted disposal fees. Staff contacted Valley <br />Crest and they stand by their bid. <br /> <br />22L-1 <br />
