<br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br /> <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br /> <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br /> <br />AUGUST 21, 2006 <br /> <br />TITLE: <br />COOPERATIVE AGREEMENT WITH CITY <br />OF COSTA MESA FOR SUNFLOWER <br />AVENUE REHABILITATION <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br />o As Recommended <br />o As Amended <br />o Ordinance on 1 st Reading <br />o Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />o Implementing Resolution <br />o Set Public Hearing For <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />WI&R <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager to <br />execute a cooperative agreement with the City of Costa Mesa to <br />rehabilitate Sunflower Avenue between Avenue of the Arts and Bear <br />Street. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />The City of Costa Mesa and the Segerstrom Company are planning a street <br />improvement proj ect in Costa Mesa's Theatre and Arts District for the <br />opening of their new Segerstrom Hall in September 2006. Improvements <br />include pavement rehabilitation of the streets surrounding the <br />District. Sunflower Avenue is within the boundary of the proposed <br />improvements. Costa Mesa has requested Santa Ana's participation in the <br />cost of rehabilitation of Sunflower Avenue since a portion of the <br />street lies within the limits of the City. <br /> <br />The scope of work within Santa Ana includes a slurry seal application <br />of the entire pavement, grind and overlay of some areas and restriping. <br />The cost to the City of Santa Ana is for a maximum of $45,000. In order <br />to reimburse the City of Costa Mesa, a cooperative agreement is needed <br />between the two cities. The proposed improvements are expected to be <br />completed in early September 2006. <br /> <br />ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT <br /> <br />The City of Costa Mesa has obtained environmental clearance for this <br />project. <br /> <br />25J-1 <br />
