City of Santa Ana
Community Development Block Grant
Scope of Work
Name of Organization- Achievement Institute of Scientific Studies
Name of Funded Program- Achievement Institute of Scientific Studies
Annual Accomplishment Goal
I. Total number of unduplicated clients (Santa Ana and Non-Santa Ana Residents) anticipated to be served by
the funded program, named above, during the 12-month contract period.
19PERSONS
II. Number of only unduplicated Santa Ana residents to be served by the funded program, named above,
during the 12-month contract period.
18PERSONS
Program and Funding Description
III. Description of Work - In the space below, describe the program to be funded during the 12-month
contract period.
AISS aims to champion the resurrection of math and science and its applications to industry. For the next year, we will be in the
second phase of our 2005-2006 goal. The firs[ was last summer when we recruited 20 scholars to part in our program that will
prepare them for the rigors and challenge of college life. In this next phase we will prepare them for the application process to the
serveral universities of their choice. They will also be trained to handle interviews well and to have a competitive resume. We also
will concentrate on the basics: scientific writing, computer skills, research, university tours, and public speaking. From late June to
late August, five days per week, two hours per day, our scholars will be [raining to be the best qualified applicant to the university of
their choice.
IV. Activities funded by this grant -How will CDBG funds be used for the funded program? Narratively
describe the budget for the funded program illustrated in Exhibit B and B-1.
Our scholars have a busy schedule ahead of them. They will be visting at least five campuses for tours and doing research at UCI.
The moneys provided by the CDBG grant will allow AISS to pay for the transportation to such places including: bus driver fees,
rental vehicle, and most likely multiple van rental. Since the focus of this second phase is mainly on college acceptace, it is
imperative that our scholars be exposed to some of the campuses around the area so that they can get a feel for college life. This will
help AISS motivate our scholars to aim higher and to look forward to the next four years of their educational career.
Exhibit A
