Number of only unduplicated Santa Ana residents to be served by the funded program, named above, <br />during the l2-month contract period. <br />140 PERSONS <br /> <br />Program and Funding Description <br />III. Description of Work - In the space below, describe the program to be funded during the 12-month <br />contract period. <br /> <br />OBJECTIVE # I: Provide general homework assistance to 140 individual students in a 12-month period. Students will participate in <br />activities designed to assit them them in meeting their individual academic needs for homework completion and comprehension. <br />Tutors will assist students in a variety of subjects based on school curriculum, lesson plans,and students' needs. Students will be <br />grouped by grade and skillleve!. Evaluation data will be compiled and tracked for at least 70 of the 140 students on the program's <br />ability to link participants to the services sought. <br /> <br />OBJECTIVE #2: Provide positive alternative activities that promote awareness and skill development through the use of technology <br />including: <br /> <br />-OPEN ACCESS COMPUTER TIME: 8 hours per week for 42 weeks of open access time will be scheduled with staff support at <br />each of 14 computer workstations, including 7 adult/family and 7 children's workstations, serving a total of85 individuals <br />throughout the program period. <br /> <br />-PEER TUTORING: 5 high school/college students will be trained as volunteer peer tutors to provide 10 hours each of volunteer <br />tutoring to assist staff to implement program activities. <br /> <br />Although the McFadden Education and Technology Center serves all Santa Ana residents, the majority of users come from schools <br />immediately surrounding the center, including Monte Vista, Lincoln, Jackson, and Diamond Elementary Schools, Carr and Spurgeon <br />Intermediate Schools and Valley High School, which make up the program's target area. The student population of these schools <br />averages 94.5% Hispanic, 3.2% Asian, 1.25% Anglo and 1.05% African American, which correlates to the high rate of Limited <br />English Proficiency, which averages 83%, mainly Spanish speaking. The target area has a total population of 43,299,86.4% of which <br />did not graduate from high school and only 3.10% hold a bachelor's degree. As a result, children have no one at home to help with <br />homework, parents. <br /> <br />IV. Activities funded by this grant - How will CDBG funds be used for the funded program? Narratively <br />describe the budget for the funded program illustrated in Exhibit B and B-1. <br /> <br />CDBG funds are used for a percentage of the Senior Recreation Supervisor salary and benefits. The percentage charged is equal to <br />the percentage of the time the supervisor dedicates to supervising and managing all Project PRIDE activies. CDBG funds also are <br />used for salary and benefits of all direct services staff including the McFadden Learning and Technology Center. <br />Particpants will utilize the services including: a quiet study place, homework assistance, computer/internet accesss, school supplies. <br />and art activities. Many of the students do not have someone at home who can help them with homework assignments, <br />computer/internet access and are unable to purchase items for homework completion and projects. <br /> <br />Exhibit A <br />Page 1 of2 <br />
