Also address integrity) <br />The Claycomb House is significant as a contributor to the French Park Historic District and is architecturally distinctive as a <br />remarkably intact and characteristic example of the American Foursquare genre, a popular building type in the years <br />immediately preceding and following the turn of the twentieth century. It was built in 1906 on Seventeenth Street and moved <br />to this location in 1929 by William White, the owner of this lot and the adjacent house (1102 North Spurgeon Street, now <br />demolished). Mrs. Mary Claycomb, widow of a local physician, was the first occupant following the relocation. Around 1963 <br />Mrs. Rokkum converted the building into a boarding house, which operated until 1989, when fhe property was purchased by <br />the City and boarded up. Paul Giles and Louise Pass restored the house, including the removal of texture coating and non- <br />original shutters from the exterior, in 1999-2000. <br />e FNENCN ~ 6, t STiPEET s <br />1 <br />Santa Ana was founded by William Spurgeon in 1869 as a speculative town site on part of the Spanish land grant known as <br />Rancho Santiago de Santa Ana. In 1877 Spurgeon, along with James McFadden and James Fruit, formed the Western <br />Development Company with the intention of bringing the Southern Pacifrc Railroad from its then Terminus in Anaheim into <br />(See Continuation Sheet 3 of 3.) <br />B11.
