REQUEST FOR COUNCIL ACTION CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: AUGUST 21, 2006 TITLE: RENEW AGREEMENT FOR COMPUTER AIDED DISPATCH SYSTEM MAINTENANCE CITY MANAGER RECOMMENDED ACTION CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: APPROVED ^ As Recommended ^ As Amended ^ Ordinance on 1 S` Reading ^ Ordinance on 2"d Reading ^ Implementing Resolution ^ Set Public Hearing For_ CONTINUED TO FILE NUMBER Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and the Clerk of the Council to renew the agreement with Northrop Grumman Public Safety, Inc. to provide basic software maintenance and support for the Police Department's computer aided dispatch system in an annual amount not to exceed $75,000. DISCUSSION The Police Department entered into a one-year maintenance agreement with four one-year renewal options with Northrop Grumman Public Safety, Inc. (PSI) in September 2003 to provide maintenance services for computer software and equipment for the Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system. The CAD is the primary data communication tool for exchanging information between police dispatchers and patrol officers who provide emergency response to our community. The ability to continue to provide specialized maintenance on this system is critical to the overall effectiveness of police service. The PSI software is proprietary and can only be serviced by Northrop Grumman Public Safety, Inc. Police Department staff recommends the renewal of the agreement for continued maintenance, upgrades, and support for the CAD software.
