Ron Cooke reiterated his request that the parking meters in front of his house be removed. <br />Councilmember Richardson promised to meet with the City Manager regarding Cooke's request <br />within the week. <br /> <br />90.B. CITY COUNCIL COMMENTS <br /> <br />Councilmember Lutz thanked Recreation and Community Services staff, as well as Downtown <br />Development Manager Roger Kooi and his wife, for planting flowers at the Artists' Village prior <br />to a well-attended July 15 art show opening. Lutz reported parking problems in Washington <br />Square resulting from events at the Santa Ana Bowl and requested staff place street barricades at <br />entrances to Washington Square in advance of such events, and discourage Bowl users from firing <br />blanks. <br /> <br />Mayor Pro Tern Richardson: <br /> <br /> - noted new Fire Chief Marc Martin was on duty; <br /> <br /> - congratulated CounciImember Lutz on a recent successful summer picnic <br /> in the Washington Square Neighborhood; <br /> <br /> - reported the Thornton Park barrier-free park was nearing completion; and <br /> <br /> - introduced Andy Dawson, a summer intern in the Planning and Building <br /> Agency, present at the Council meeting. <br /> <br />Councilmember McGuigan reported the following suggestions from constituents: <br /> <br /> - placing of street lights on Harbor Boulevard within the median instead <br /> of along the sidewalks; <br /> <br /> - encouraging lawn watering by offering a discount on water bills for well- <br /> maintained lawns; and <br /> <br /> - paving parkways which are not well maintained. <br /> <br />She also congratulated Fire Department employees who had participated in the recent Orange <br />County Fire Services Summer Olympics. <br /> <br />Councilmember Moreno endorsed the suggestion that street lights be placed in medians, and <br />requested staff contact the property owner at a strip mall near the Martin Luther King School on <br />Bristol where the landscaped areas were deteriorating. <br /> <br />Mayor Pulido reported the City had received preliminary approval for a $13.9 million Housing <br />and Urban Development (HUD) loan for the Police administration facility. <br /> <br />CITY COUNCIL MINUTES 202 JULY 17, 1995 <br /> <br /> <br />
