FOR INSECTICIDAL <br />COATING IN SEWER MANHOLES <br /> <br />~ <br /> <br />O~(}t2 <br />CI Y MANAGER <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />-- <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Direct the City Attorney to prepare and authorize the City Manager and <br />the Clerk of the Council to execute an agreement with Golden Bell <br />Products, Inc. for a three-year term in the amount of $30,000 per year <br />for the application of insecticidal latex coating in sewer manholes. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />The City owns and maintains a sanitary sewer collection system <br />consisting of 390 miles of pipelines and 8,300 manholes. Cockroach <br />infestation is controlled by applying insecticide in sewer manholes. <br />The use of insecticidal latex coating provides a cost effective manhole <br />treatment that remains effective for several years after application. <br />Due to the specialized materials and equipment required, the City has <br />historically contracted with a private company for this work. <br /> <br />In April of 2006, the City solicited bid proposals from pest control <br />firms to perform the required work. Out of two firms that were <br />identified, only Golden Bell Products, Inc. currently possesses the <br />required California Department of pesticide License and certifications. <br /> <br />Golden Bell Products, Inc. has provided sewer manhole treatment <br />services to the City on three prior occasions over the past ten years. <br />Their work has been of high quality with effective cockroach control <br />continuing well beyond the two-year warranty period. Based upon the <br />lack of other qualified firms and the quality work provided, staff <br />recommends that Golden Bell Products, Inc. be awarded a contract as the <br />sole source supplier for the application of insecticidal latex coating <br />in sewer manholes. <br /> <br />The proposed contract will include the treatment of approximately 1,800 <br />sewer manholes per year. Staff recommends that an agreement term of <br />three years be awarded in the amount of $30,000 per year. <br /> <br />25F-1 <br />
