Reject the bid from Fitness Select as nonresponsive to the <br />specification. <br /> <br />2. Award a contract to Advantage Fitness Products for the purchase <br />and installation of exercise equipment in the amount of $10,996. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />The Fire Department has established a physical fitness program for fire <br />personnel. Firefighters are assigned a one-hour workout period per shift <br />and are tested yearly to determine if they are in compliance with fitness <br />requirements. The installation of physical fitness equipment at all fire <br />stations encourages firefighters to exercise regularly while readily <br />responding to calls for service. <br /> <br />The notice inviting bids was advertised on July 7 and 10, 2006, and bids <br />were solicited. A summary of the bid invitations and bids received is as <br />follows: <br /> <br />24 Invitations For Bid mailed <br />3 Invitations For Bid mailed to Santa Ana vendors <br />3 Bids received <br /> <br />Bids were received, opened on August 15, 2006, and evaluated (Exhibit 1). <br />The bid from Fitness Select was considered nonresponsive, as it contained <br />substitute equipment instead of the items listed in the specifications. <br />The bid received from Advantage Fitness Products is responsive to the <br />specifications and meets the City's requirements. <br /> <br />22G-1 <br />
