NO. 06-128) <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Award a contract to Irvine Pipe & Supply, Inc. for the purchase of remote <br />water chillers in the amount of $15,980. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />The Public Works Agency's Water Resources Division uses chlorine generation <br />uni ts to treat water pumped from most of the City's wells and pump <br />stations. The units automatically shut off when the water temperature <br />exceeds a specified level. The recent high air temperatures caused the <br />uni ts to shut off repeatedly. Installation of the remote water chillers <br />will allow the units to have a higher tolerance for warm weather. As a <br />resul t, the units will last longer, and operate more efficiently during <br />warm weather. <br /> <br />The notice inviting bids was advertised on August 11 and 14, 2006, and bids <br />were solicited. A summary of the bid invitations and bids received is as <br />follows: <br /> <br />14 Invitations For Bid mailed <br />6 Invitations For Bid mailed to Santa Ana vendors <br />2 Bids received <br />2 Bids received from Santa Ana vendors <br /> <br />Bids were received, opened on August 29, 2006, and evaluated.
