REQUEST FOR
COUNCIL ACTION
CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE:
SEPTEMBER 18, 2006
TITLE:'
CONTRACT AMENDMENT
POLICE.K-9 SEDANS
(SPEC. NO. 06-009)
CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY:
APPROVED
^ As Recommended
FOR ^ As Amended
^ Ordinance on 151 Reading
^ Ordinance on 2"d Reading
^ Implementing Resolution
^ Set Public Hearing For
CITY MANAGER
RECOMMENDED ACTION
CONTINUED TO
FILE NUMBER
Amend the contract with Bros. Dodge Riverside, formerly known as Moss
Motors Dodge, for the purchase of two vehicles in the amount of 54,704.94,
for a total amount of $109,409.88.
DISCUSSION
The Fleet Maintenance Division's annual Equipment Replacement Program is
included in the City's annual budget, and identifies vehicles scheduled for
replacement. Funding is monitored through a depreciation schedule
established with each department. Additionally, the Fleet Division reviews
the acquisition in accordance with the City's Hybrid and Alternative Fuel
Vehicle Acquisition Policy. Currently, hybrid vehicles are not manufactured
in the configuration requirements that would support K-9 operations in
large wagon vehicles.
The Police Department's K-9 patrol vehicles are used to transport police
officers and their canine partners to perform routine business. The Police
Canine Unit tested several full-sized vehicles in search of a new line of
K-9 sedans. Vehicles are graded and assessed on such features as safety
for both the officers and the dogs, driving performance, and storage
capacity. The Dodge Magnum was evaluated and approved by the Santa Ana
Police Department as the new K-9 vehicle. Due to age and condition, two
1999 Ford K-9 sedans have been approved for replacement in the current
fiscal year.
On February 6, 2006, the City Council awarded a contract to Bros. Dodge
Riverside for the purchase of two Dodge Magnum vehicles. The vendor has
offered to extend the same terms and conditions for two additional Dodge
Magnum vehicles. Therefore, staff recommends amending the contract with
Bros. Dodge Riverside.
22E-1
