<br />CITY COUNCIL MEETING DATE: <br /> <br /> <br />CLERK OF COUNCIL USE ONLY: <br /> <br />REQUEST FOR <br />COUNCIL ACTION <br /> <br />OCTOBER 2, 2006 <br />TITLE: <br /> <br />APPROVED <br /> <br />RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING <br />PARTICIPATION IN THE STATE OF <br />CALIFORNIA RIVER PARKWAYS GRANT <br />PROGRAM <br /> <br />o As Recommended <br />o As Amended <br />o Ordinance on 151 Reading <br />o Ordinance on 2nd Reading <br />o Implementing Resolution <br />o Set Public Hearing For <br /> <br />~~ <br /> <br />clT MANAGER <br /> <br />CONTINUED TO <br /> <br />FILE NUMBER <br /> <br />RECOMMENDED ACTION <br /> <br />Adopt a resolution authorizing the submittal of a grant application in the <br />amount of $1,000,000 for the California River Parkways Grant Program for <br />the Santa Ana River Enhancement Project. <br /> <br />DISCUSSION <br /> <br />The California River Parkways Grant Program was established under the <br />Water Security, Clean Drinking Water, Coastal and Beach Protection Act of <br />2002. The program provides funds for recreational acquisition, <br />restoration, protection and development of river parkways. Approximately <br />$32.5 million is available to fund projects during this grant cycle. <br /> <br />The Parks, Recreation and Community Services Agency is requesting <br />authorization to submit a grant application in the amount of $1,000,000 <br />for the enhancement of the five sites identified in the Santa Ana River <br />Vision Plan. The sites to be improved as part of this project are: Edna <br />Park, 17th Street Triangle, Fairview Triangle, McFadden Triangle, and <br />Edinger Equestrian area.
