<br />(P.C., 9/26/06) <br /> <br />RESOLUTION 2006-071 <br /> <br />A RESOLUTION APPROVING THE DECISION OF THE <br />CHIEF OF POLICE, PAUL M. WALTERS, TO NAME THE <br />POLICE FITNESS CENTER IN HONOR OF DEPUTY <br />CHIEF BRUCE R. CARLSON <br /> <br />BE IT RESOLVED BY THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF SANTA ANA AS <br />FOLLOWS: <br /> <br />Section 1. The City Council of the City of Santa Ana hereby finds, determines <br />and declares as follows: <br /> <br />A. Deputy Chief Bruce R. Carlson spent 33 years as a dedicated employee <br />with the Santa Ana Police Department and served the community with <br />compassion and understanding. <br /> <br />1. Deputy Chief Carlson was instrumental in establishing a state of the <br />art police fitness center for use by all city employees. <br />2. He was an avid weightlifter having won medals in the Police and <br />Fire Olympics. <br />3. He coordinated the 2002 California Police and Fire Games to <br />benefit local charities. <br />4. To acknowledge his commitment to fitness as a way of life and also <br />as a tribute to his service to the department, the Chief of Police <br />requests that the police fitness center be named in memory of <br />Deputy Chief Bruce R. Carlson. <br /> <br />Section 2. The City Council hereby approves the decision of the Chief of <br />Police, Paul M. Walters, to name the police fitness center in honor of Deputy Chief <br />Bruce R. Carlson. <br /> <br />Section 3. This Resolution shall take effect immediately upon its adoption by <br />the City Council, and the Clerk of the Council shall attest to and certify the vote adopting <br />this Resolution. <br /> <br />ADOPTED this 2nd day of October, 2006. <br /> <br /> <br />Resolution No. 2006-071 <br />Page 1 of 2 <br />
